Both DVRs and NVRs record your camera footage, but they work with different types of cameras.

DVR

A DVR works with analog (coaxial) cameras. It is a good choice when upgrading an existing wired system.

NVR

An NVR works with IP cameras over a network cable. With PoE, one cable carries both power and video, and image quality is usually higher.
